Breaking 5 Fireplace Myths with Trending Today
We teamed up with "Trending Today” an award-winning A&E and Bloomberg TV show that profiles the world’s leading innovators and how they’re reshaping industries and inspiring change. Heat & Glo is honored to be highlighted among these amazing companies and are proud that after nearly 50 years in the industry, we’re still the leader in fire. Check out our “Trending Today” segment below and see how we brought our building community together to bust five common misconceptions about fireplaces in today’s market.
Myth 1: Fireplaces Aren’t Safe
No matter the fuel type – wood, gas or electric – fireplaces are safe when installed and maintained correctly. Since our company started in 1975, Heat & Glo has been going above and beyond industry safety measures and even setting new standards. We were the first to require safety screens on gas fireplaces (well before it became a standard) and each of our products undergoes rigorous testing here in the heartland of the United States. Learn more about fireplace safety and request a safety screen if your fireplace doesn’t already have one.
Myth 2: Fireplaces Aren’t Worth the Investment
“Fireplaces are absolutely a worthwhile investment,” says Kate Hamilton of Custom One Homes. They add warmth, value and ambiance that no other home appliance can replicate. Beyond cozying up in colder months, fireplaces enhance the aesthetic appeal of a home. As a timeless design element, they offer versatility – blending seamlessly into modern, rustic or traditional interiors. This adaptability makes them a highly sought-after feature in both new builds and home remodels.
From a financial perspective, fireplaces often increase a home’s resale value, with the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB) noting as much as a 12 percent jump. Many potential buyers view fireplaces as a luxury feature, and homes with fireplaces tend to sell faster and at higher prices. Many of our products are energy efficient, especially gas fireplaces and electric fireplaces, which can reduce heating costs by providing targeted warmth to high-use areas.
Myth 3: You Have to Choose Between a TV and a Fireplace
Fireplace or TV? Both please! With our heat management technology, heat is redirected away from the wall so TVs can be mounted as close as a few inches from the fireplace. “I love how the rectilinear quality of the fireplace perfectly complements the TV above so that it’s a seamless transition on the wall,” notes interior designer Laura Waller.
Myth 4: You Can’t Add a Fireplace to an Existing Home
Adding a fireplace to an existing home is easier than ever with Heat & Glo. We partner with installers all over the country to handle every part of your fireplace project, often coordinating everything from running the gas lines to city inspection. Plus, since our invention of Direct Vent Technology (now an industry standard, by the way), you don’t need a chimney in order to have a fireplace – our team simply vents the fireplace to the outside so there’s not any major construction.
If you already have a fireplace but it’s non-functional or just outdated, a gas insert is a perfect solution to take your fireplace from unused to unbelievable. An insert fits directly into your existing firebox and can be turned on and off at a moment’s notice. No mess or hassle, just all the warmth, efficiency and beauty you love about fire.
Myth 5: Fireplaces Can’t Be Customized
Personalized options are available within Heat & Glo’s standard fireplace units. Decorative front and interior panels can be a great way to fine-tune the look of your fireplace. With many of our fireplaces, you can also choose your log style, fire bed media, and accent lighting.
But to really take custom fireplaces up a notch, Stellar by Heat & Glo offers tailor-made solutions. These fireplaces are made-to-order, allowing you to specify the dimensions down to one-hundredth of an inch. You have total control over the size, shape and style, including premium interior aesthetics that exceed the boundaries of a traditional fireplace. Stellar helps homeowners, architects and designers translate their unique ideas for a focal point into a stunning fireplace that adds an undeniable wow factor. Best of all, our team of hearth experts work with you through every step of the process from ideation to installation. Find a dealer near you today.
