Dark Blue Fireplace In The Bedroom? Yes, Please!
When you think of a fireplace project, the first space that typically comes to mind is the living room. But the coziness and convenience of a gas fireplace doesn’t have to be confined to a certain part of the floor plan. Take a page out of interior designer Emily Henderson’s book (or rather, her blog) and up the ambiance in your primary bedroom. Henderson artfully crafted a dreamy retreat with personal touches, moody and calming colors, and natural elements like wood, linen, greenery, and our favorite – fire. See how she explored different fireplace fuel types and brick paint colors to make this addition feel right at home.
Henderson and her team designed the bedroom fireplace surround to mimic the original one in the living room; finishing it with the same style of brick gave the bedroom addition a more “lived-in” feel so it didn’t feel disconnected from the existing architecture. As for the unit itself, Henderson went beyond the traditional and opted for a gas fireplace. The Slimline 7X with Tranquil Greige Refractory Brick was the best of both worlds for this project, providing sleek modern style to offset the brick, with all the convenience of starting a fire with the flip of a switch.
Contrary to common misconceptions, incorporating a fireplace into your bedroom can actually contribute to energy efficiency when chosen and used wisely. High-efficiency gas fireplaces are designed to provide warmth while consuming minimal energy, making them a sustainable heating option compared to central heating systems. (Not to mention – if the heat goes out, you’ll still have your fire!)
The brick was a no-brainer, but the paint color was more of a head-scratcher. The designer started with a smoky blue, which ended up being a lot lighter than her initial charcoal inspiration, and later landed on a moodier hue. She confesses that she loves the look of a dark-painted fireplace. “Sometimes it looks dark blue, sometimes closer to charcoal, but it’s just so pretty. And it’s my personal and strong opinion that gas fireplaces (the black boxes) look better on a darker fireplace.” After a few changes of heart, Big Dipper by Sherwin-Williams won out as the perfect complement to the lighter blue tones in the bedroom.
To further enhance the aesthetic appeal of the mantel, consider incorporating a variety of decor elements in different shapes and scales. Completing the look with a personal touch, above the fireplace sits the Samsung Frame, which transforms your TV into a work of art. The Slimline 7X with Tranquil Greige Refractory Brick allows for a TV above the fireplace through venting. The partnership between the Heat & Glo fireplace and the Frame creates a stunning aesthetic without sacrificing the true purpose: coziness.
